The Acorn Superglide 120 is a personal straight stairlift designed for the domestic user.
Power Supply: Acorn stairlifts are powered by direct current (DC) supplied by rechargeable batteries. These deliver a smooth, ultra-quiet and safe ride quality. The batteries are maintenance-free and charged by a safe 15 volt AC, which is stepped-down from the domestic mains supply with a transformer. Using this method of power for your stairlift has many advantages. If there is ever a power failure in your home your stairlift continues to function, so you will never get stranded. There is no mains voltage power to your stairlift. As the power supply is onboard the stairlift itself there is no troublesome trailing cable as you get with AC powered lifts. DC battery power gives an extremely smooth and near silent operation. It also allows us to build in a 'soft start / soft stop', this means that there is no jolting or lurching as your stairlift starts or finishes its journey. This adds to the feeling of safety and stability.
Ride Quality: The peerless ride quality is attributed to our unique rail profile and chassis roller system working in conjunction with the DC power and rack and pinion drive systems. Typically, other stairlifts feature four, or sometimes six, chassis rollers and a box section rail. The Acorn Superglide stairlift has eight rollers, giving a surface contact area at least four times greater than competitor products. Such features, along with our unique double-tube rail profile, gives the smoothest, quietest and most luxurious ride quality currently available, and a superb feeling of safety and stability when using the stairlift.
Easy to Use: All of the easy to use features are built into each stairlift Acorn manufacture. Having a fold away footrest means the stairs remain available for use by others when the stairlift is not in use. Due to the stairlifts DC power supply noise levels are at whisper quiet levels. The lift can be 'sent' or 'called' to wherever it is needed by using the infra-red remote control. There is no jolting or lurching as the lift starts or finishes its journey. Swivel seat with locking catch - ensures easy mounting and dismounting from the stairlift. The lift will not operate unless the seat is in the correct riding position. The diagnostic digital display mounted on the stairlift carriage shows clearly when the lift is in the normal operating position and also provides invaluable diagnostic information in the unlikely event of a fault with your stairlift.
Safe to Use: Designed to meet BS5776-1996 eliminating any risk of electric shock. Dual electronic and mechanical braking systems eliminate the possibility of an uncontrolled descent. Lockable isolation switch to ensure that the stairlift always stops in the correct position. Pressure-sensitive safety surfaces that prevent the lift from colliding with any obstruction on the stairway. These are located around the footrest, and on the top and bottom of the carriage.
Easy to Maintain: Our stairlifts are fit to the treads of the stairs and not to the wall, so there's no need for any structural modifications. The installation process is quick, clean and simple because we use our own fully trained installation engineers. Each stairlift is factory prepared, which means that the stairlift is custom built to fit your staircase. There are no expensive and disruptive alterations to the mains power supply due to the DC batteries that power the stairlift when in motion. The two twelve volt batteries that power the stairlift, are charged at either end of the stairlift, therefore there are no trailing cables that can get in the way. There are no wires for the remote controls either, to call the stairlift to your location you simply press a button on the wireless remote controls.

Safety Features
- Swivel seat with locking catch: To allow easier mounting and dismounting of a stairlift, an Acorn stairlift comes with a swivel seat. The swivel seat locks in position via a catch located on the seat which enables you can use the stairlift with ease. The stairlift will not operate unless the seat is in the correct riding position, this means that you can be confident that your journey on the stairs will be safe and secure.
- Seat belts: All Acorn stairlifts come with an inertial reel lap harness, this is like a seat belt in a car, and will keep you in the stairlift's seat at all times. Safety is a priority when going up the stairs.
- Pressure sensitive safety surfaces: If there is an obstruction on the stairs, our stairlifts will detect it with at least one of the five pressure sensitive surfaces situated around the stairlift. If an obstruction is detected, the Acorn stairlift will cease movement so you can move the obstruction. The pressure sensitive surfaces are located around the footrest and the top and bottom of the stairlift carriage.
- Slim-line design: The fold-away construction makes the stairlift unobtrusive and allows full access of the stairs.
- Diagnostic digital display: Mounted on the carriage of the stairlift is a digital display which shows clearly when the lift is in the normal operating position. Also it provides invaluable diagnostic information in the unlikely event of a fault with your stairlift.
- Limit sensors: At the end of either an ascent or descent, the stairlift will come to a 'soft stop' due to the limit sensors. These ensure that the stairlift always stops in the correct position.
- Electronic and mechanical braking systems: The stairlift is fitted with these essential safety systems to eliminate any possibility of an uncontrolled descent of the stairlift.
- Choice of Control: An Acorn stairlift can be controlled via 2 methods, a simple 'paddle switch' and the infra-red remote control. If both remotes are used at the same time, the paddle switches will override the remote controls, that means that the person on the stairlift will be in control of the stairlift.
- You will receive two infra-red remotes with every stairlift which enables you to call the stairlift to either end of the stairs. The infra-red remote is wireless so there are no messy cables trailing around your home, or unsightly wall mounted control stations.
- The 'paddle switch' control is located at the end of both arm rests of the stairlift and can be operated by hand.
Options
- Key Locking System: All Acorn stairlifts can be locked, preventing unauthorized use, with a key.
- Hinged Rail: The lower section of the rail folds up and out of the way when not in use, allowing greater access at the foot of the stairs. The option of a hinged rail is ideal when there may a doorway near the foot of the stairs. When the stairlift is not is use, the rail is neatly out of the way and causes no obstruction.
- Sit and Stand Frame: With a Sit/Stand Frame, you can choose whether to use the stairs in either the usual seated position or to stand on the footrest. With a special folding steady/security bar for stability, it is ideal for anybody who may have problems bending their knees, or where multiple users with different requirements will be using the stairlift. The Superglide Perch Stairlift may also be suitable.
